September Recovery Month: A Time to Begin Again

September is the season of transition, when summer’s ease gives way to sharper light, cooler air, and the quiet promise of change. Fittingly, it’s also National Recovery Month: a moment to recognise the millions of people living in recovery, to spotlight the power of treatment, and to remind anyone struggling that they are far from alone.

At Montrose Health Group, recovery isn’t an abstract concept. It’s daily work, lived experience, and for many of our staff and clients it's a personal journey.

What Recovery Month Means

First established in 1989, National Recovery Month was created to celebrate the progress of those in recovery, highlight evidence-based treatment, and honour the professionals and families who make healing possible.

It’s also about reducing stigma: making recovery visible, relatable, and real.

The Montrose Approach

At Montrose, recovery is never one-size-fits-all. Our care reflects the complexities of each individual we serve. We provide:

  • Tailored Treatment Plans designed for each person’s unique needs.

  • Outpatient Programs for flexibility without sacrificing support.

  • Group Therapy & Peer Connection to build community and resilience.

  • Family Services that strengthen the support system at home.

  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate.

  • Aftercare Planning to help sustain progress long after treatment.

Every program is built around one principle: that no one should have to navigate recovery on their own.

Voices From Our Team

Some of our staff are in recovery themselves. That lived experience means the work is more than professional — it’s personal.

  • "Recovery is a pro-social and values relationships  as recovery is something that happened between people and not in isolation alone so its about our positive social constructs that give us meaning and value in life" - Stuart Green

  • "The advice I would give people is that you have to admit that you’ve got a problem—and reach out for help."- Rob Sewell

Voices From Our Clients

Our clients are at the heart of everything we do. Their journeys remind us that recovery is possible — and worth it.

  • From coming from a bad place, you've given me hope, strength. You've helped me start to restore my sanity. I am so grateful!"

  • "My stay was above and beyond. This was a perfect detox for me and I will highly recommend your service throughout my stay. Your staff are should be commended for this. I have so much gratitude for your team. Peace be with you all."

  • "I already feel I have adapted a lot of what I learnt during my retreat into my everyday life now I have returned. I am so grateful to have had Rachael living with me she made the whole experience easier with her kind, generous and comforting aura."

Why It Matters

Recovery Month is not about perfection. It’s about progress — whether that looks like one day, one month, or one year. Every milestone matters. And every story shared makes recovery more visible, more possible, and more real.
