THE PROCESS

At Montrose Health Group, we offer comprehensive ADHD and combined ADHD and Autism assessments for both adults and adolescents (aged 7+). We combine clinical precision with a person-centred ethos. Our service is built around a robust pathway that places you at the centre of the treatment experience—ensuring you feel understood, supported, and empowered at every stage of your mental wellbeing journey.

TRIAGE

The triage is a friendly informal screening split into 4 main sections where we briefly discuss:

Autism symptoms – delving into social communication deficits, repetitive and rigid routines, and sensory sensitivities.

ADHD Symptoms – identifies if symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity and deficits in executive functioning are present.

• Developmental and Medical History – asks about any birth complications, speech/motor delays, current medications or health conditions.

Differential diagnoses – this section screens for differential diagnoses like OCD, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Attachment etc. – differential diagnoses can affect the presentation of ADHD and ASD symptoms and therefore it is vital we explore these.

The functional impact symptoms are having – asks if symptoms are impacting different areas of the patients life such as their home life and school/work life.

Strengths and protective factors – aspects of their life that make them feeling happy and supported that could include people, hobbies, or interests.

• Assess for risk – ensures the patient is in no danger to themselves or others (e.g. no self-harm, suicidal ideation, aggression) and there are no safeguarding concerns (e.g. domestic violence exposure, neglect, parental mental health concerns).

Once all of these topics have been discussed, this marks the end of the triage where a summary is presented of whether progression to an assessment is justified and why (this is done by summarising their symptoms they have explained, explaining no differential diagnoses are present that could be impacting the presentation of their symptoms, and this decision being supported from the scores of the pre-triage screening forms).

The clinical may also suggest that a combined or singular ADHD and ASD assessment is more appropriate given everything discussed if this does not align with the type of assessment you were seeking. However, if differential diagnoses are present, they will inform you that further review of their triage notes is needed with the Consultant Clinical Psychologist before progressing to assessment.
